A few words from Christina Trauthwein

Christina Trauthwein Editor

As I write this, we’re getting ready to flip the switch on our new website. A lot of thought and hard work has been put into improving the look and feel of hotelbusiness.com and I’m grateful to the Hotel Business team—and IT team—I work with for making it all happen. It is through many hours, some trial and error, on-the-job education and collaboration that we’re able to unveil the brand’s new site today. By the time you read this, I’m sure you’ve already seen it. But, if not, please make sure to check it out.

I don’t have to tell you how exciting and satisfying it is to renovate, redesign, refresh. Or how important it is to update your brand to retain return guests and capture new ones. Well, the same can be said here: We’ve redesigned our website to be more streamlined, visually appealing, user-friendly and mobile-friendly. And we hope you feel compelled to keep returning for the latest industry news, digital exclusives and video interviews.

Probably the first thing you’ll notice is how clean it looks. This, in part, is due to our decision to use fewer words and more—and larger—photos. We’ve simplified your options without sacrificing the information. Operations. Technology. Ownership. Design. Videos. These are the content tabs that guide your selection; however, we do label the stories by subcategories, which are a little more granular, breaking the content down further into more specific topics such as acquisitions, brands, finance, renovations, new-builds, guest services and loyalty, making the information you need easier to search.

The leading daily news stories are now presented to you in a vertical scroll fashion so you can easily assess and access  what you want and need to know at a quick glance. Have more time? More stories appear in a linear lineup, as you scroll down the home page. Also, you’ve probably noticed over roughly the past six months, our increasing emphasis on video—interviews from conferences, trade shows and one-on-ones at both Hotel Business and industry events. You’ll be sure to see them now in their new place of prominence on the home page: Scroll though them horizontally to find the one you want to watch.

But instead of walking you through the whole site design, I’ll let you discover it for yourself.  Watch, read, share. Pass on your favorite Hotel Business piece to your colleagues via social media. It’s as easy as clicking on our Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter buttons.

And speaking of being more interactive, I just want to remind you about another initiative we recently launched: togo.hotelbusiness.com, our mobile-friendly digital edition. Whether you access the current issue and past issues from your desktop, laptop or mobile device is your choice, but you’ll be able to easily and conveniently read Hotel Business whenever you want and wherever you are without missing a beat.

So take a moment, check out hotelbusiness.com and togo.hotelbusiness.com and let me know your thoughts. I’d love to hear from you.
