Smart mattress provides a restorative sleep

A good night’s sleep is one of the keys to the wellness experience. With today’s guests more focused than ever on their health during their stay, it is important for hoteliers to equip their guestrooms with the tools to achieve a night of rest and relaxation.

To help hotels with this, Los Altos, CA-based sleep tech startup Bryte has brought its mattresses with AI-based technology to the hospitality industry, first in 2018 with its Bryte Restorative Bed and its second-generation, updated Bryte Balance smart mattress, which launched in the fall of 2022 to replace its predecessor.

“The rise of wellness tourism means hotels are focusing on leveling up the customer experience,” said Bryte CEO Luke Kelly. “Guests are seeking wellness as they travel, and as each guest has different needs and sleep preferences, it is important to invest in a customizable mattress like the Bryte Balance over a traditional mattress that doesn’t meet the needs of every sleeper. Providing the best experience for the customer results in repeat stays, and a restorative sleep experience is the best place to start. After all, sleep is the foundation of health and a great hotel stay.”

The Bryte Balance mattress provides that good night’s sleep through the company’s Restorative Sleep Technology, which allows guests to customize their experience.

“Guests who stay at a hotel with the Bryte Balance can personalize the mattress for their individual comfort, actively fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer through three key features,” said Kelly.
First is Somnify, “which synchronizes sleep-inducing audio with gentle movement within the mattress to help guests unwind and drift off to sleep,” noted Kelly, who added, “Then, once you’re asleep, our Rebalancing technology proactively removes pressure imbalances with its intelligent cushions that sense, target and relieve pressure spikes before they wake you.”

Finally, Bryte’s Dual Comfort Tailoring allows couples to customize both sides of the mattress,
“providing comfort based on each partner’s individual attributes and sleeping preferences,” Kelly said. “Plus, our silent wake assist gently rocks you awake with silent, rhythmic motions, allowing you to peacefully awaken without disturbing your partner or your body’s natural rhythm.”

He pointed out that the Bryte app guides users through setting up their mattresses and helps them to start personalizing their comfort settings, for individuals or couples.

“As the user sleeps on the Bryte Balance mattress, their sleep metrics are analyzed within the app to assign a sleep score detailing their total sleep time and reflects their quality of sleep,” said Kelly. “Users can view their sleep efficiency; the time spent in bed compared to the actual time spent asleep; their sleep cycle; the number of times the mattress rebalanced as their positions shifted; heart rate; respiration rate; and more. By understanding their sleep score and the quality of sleep they are getting at night, guests can adjust their sleep settings as needed for an optimized night of restorative sleep.”

Since Bryte also sells the Bryte Balance mattress to consumers, home users can save their settings in the app and bring them over to the bed in the guestroom.

“Hotel guests who have a Bryte Balance mattress at home can sync their Bryte Profile to the hotel’s Bryte Balance to experience the same sleep settings as they do at home,” said Kelly. “Meanwhile, those who do not have a Bryte Balance at home can still use the Bryte app by simply scanning the QR code provided by the hotel. As the hotel app is web-based, guests don’t have to download anything to their personal devices. All guests can experience Somnify by choosing which audio/motion experience they’d like to try, as well as dual comfort tailoring if they are sleeping with a partner.”

Kelly said that Bryte Balance hospitality pricing is $1,995 per unit, with volume discounts available, and the mattresses do not require rotating or any maintenance.

Bryte Balance mattresses can currently be found in 10 hotels across the U.S., including the Park Hyatt New York and The Wall Street Hotel in New York City, the Park Hyatt Chicago (see sidebar on pg. 14) and the Waldorf Astoria Monarch Beach in San Francisco.

“We also have several hotels across the country still utilizing the previous generation mattress, the Bryte Restorative Bed,” said Kelly. “We are constantly expanding our suite of hotel partners for the Bryte Balance, and we’re getting ready to announce another exciting partnership—so stay tuned.”
