Tech & bedding: Creating clean, comfortable sleep experiences

Allied, a manufacturer of bedding products, is partnering with technology companies to not only keep hotel guests satisfied while sleeping, but sanitary as well. Sleeping comfortably has always been a common guest request, but now more than ever, guests need to be assured that where they rest their heads at night has been sanitized properly.

“Even though Allied has been manufacturing and supplying filled bedding to the hospitality industry for many years, we knew it was necessary to continue to grow, evolve and create a unique identity,” said Steve Uretsky, founder/CEO of Allied Feather + Down. “Doing so allows us to dedicate significant resources to purpose-driven research and development while identifying and solving for the unique needs of the hospitality industry. Simultaneously, it also allows us to work more intimately with our Allied Home product development team to provide superior levels of comfort and craftsmanship for our valued hospitality partners.”

Through its partnership with 37.5 Technology, Allied will introduce a bedding collection later this spring that keeps guests comfortable through temperature. The bedding helps to keep the optimum relative humidity in the personal microclimate, creating an environment that’s neither too hot nor too cold.

“One the key features and differentiation points of Allied Home is the dedication to health and wellness experiences through bedding products as demonstrated in partnerships such as 37.5 and others,” Uretsky said. “As Allied Hospitality grows, we are able to build upon some of those partnerships to design guest bedding products with critical features such as cleanliness and safety, particularly in light of the current pandemic.”

Developed for high-performance athletic and outdoor gear, 37.5 Technology works by permanently embedding fabric and fill with natural activated particles. This technology actively reduces humidity to maximize the natural cooling process of sweat evaporation. In turn, removing moisture vapor from the body before it turns into sweat helps to maintain an ideal sleep climate. The technology also helps bedding dry quickly, which can help reduce energy in the laundering process. Additionally, rather than washing out, the active particles are permanent and refreshed each time they are laundered.

Allied has also forged a relationship with biotech company Fuze, which specializes in fungal, bacterial and viral resistance having achieved FDA approval for use on ventilators during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Working collaboratively, we are building the future of hospitality bedding products that feature the comfort known from Allied Home’s modern manufacturing and innovative fill solutions alongside the fungal, bacteria and viral resistance of Fuze’s cutting-edge, clean, safe, non-ionic, environmentally friendly treatment. Working together, we have also discovered that wash and dry times can be reduced with Fuze application, which has the potential to reduce a hotel’s overall impact and energy consumption,” Uretsky said.

He added, “This commitment to safety and cleanliness—coupled with comfort and luxury—builds a synergy between Allied Hospitality, our innovation partners like Fuze, as well as our valued customers. But most importantly, this synergy creates peace of mind for the guest and a better nights’ sleep.”

Especially as the world begins to travel again, he said the company is committed to these partnerships, allowing for enhanced transparency and traceability for its products and services.

Uretsky said that consumers, in general, have been making purchase decisions based on traceability of ingredients and manufacturing for some time now in other industries, which he can see translating to the traveler who is looking for assurances that their rooms will be safe and clean.

Uretsky said, “Even before the pandemic, hotel bedding was the butt of many jokes about, ‘Do you know what you are sleeping on?’ That attitude has progressed from a bit of a joke at best and sleeping in clothes at worst, to one that could potentially and, quite literally, kill. We like to say that the sleep experience—arguably the single most important part of the guest experience—starts with peace of mind. If a guest is unsure about what they are sleeping on, they will certainly not rest well. Our commitment to the development of these partnerships and products is meant to put the guest’s mind at ease.”

According to the CEO, Allied is in the process of commercializing its first Fuze-treated products for the hospitality sector—which are in the final stages of testing—with expectations to see these delivered to its partners as early as late spring.

“Allied Hospitality is committing the resources to our cleanliness and safety program moving forward with the goal that some of these technologies such as Fuze—currently unique product lines or offerings—will eventually be part of every product offered,” Uretsky said. “The goal is that every product automatically features this level of safety so more discussion can be focused around the science of comfort.”
