We all know that clean laundry machines are efficient machines. Cleaning out the lint screen after every use becomes a habit, and routine maintenance has to be done regularly so that clothes come out clean and dry.
The same goes for the machines in hotel laundry facilities. A dirty or broken washer or dryer becomes a headache for both the hotelier and the guest—and could also lead to bad reviews.
According to Byron Hatch, principal national account manager, commercial laundry, GE Appliances, “Not only does the cleanliness of the laundry facility leave an impression on guests during their stay, but the washer and dryer control panel and finishes may be damaged by some laundry pretreatment soil and stain remover products, so it’s important to keep the exteriors clean and wiped down.
He continued, “The interior of our washing machines is just as important to us, which is why our GE Appliances Commercial Laundry products feature Microban antimicrobial protection to help prevent bacteria in key areas just as knobs, buttons, handles and tub components.”
While it is easy to clean the machines on the outside, the belts and hoses have to be inspected as well to prolong the life of the laundry equipment.
“A service professional is recommended for commercial washer and dryer maintenance, and GE Appliances has a national service network of factory and authorized service technicians,” said Hatch. He recommended an annual inspection of washer fill hoses and at least a semi-annual inspection of the dyer vents.
Lint removal is a key component of dryer maintenance and helps the machines run smoothly. No hotel wants guests to find lint in their dryer, which could end up on their clothes.
Hoyer said GE Appliances “recommends that the lint filter should be cleaned before each use and also suggests preventive maintenance to remove lint from various areas of the dryer and throughout the ductwork system by qualified service personnel periodically based on usage.”
GE Appliances offers several types of commercial laundry machines for hotels, including top and front loaders, with or without windows, and pay-per-use washers and dryers.
All GE commercial laundry machines use smart technology. Hoyer noted the pay-per-use washers and dryers allow guests to use the Launderday app-based coinless payment system. The app, available for Apple and Andriod phones, enables users to pay for their wash and dry through their phone, check washer and dryer cycle time and be alerted when their load is finished.
Hotels using GE Appliances machines have access to the SmartHQ Commercial Laundry ownership management app.
“This allows the equipment owner to manage their business from anywhere,” said Hoyer. “SmartHQ Service puts the power of machine level data, tech support, technical information and parts ordering into the palm of our technicians’ hands for quick and complete diagnosis and repair, saving time and assisting in first call repairs.”
