Two Sonesta brands lead by design

Design. For hotels, it means taking four walls and a bed and making it something special. Anything from colors to flooring to lighting to artwork can turn a guestroom or lobby into a photo-worthy space. A unique design could make guests feel like a local or feel like they are at home.

Hospitality design provides the first impression of the hotel and the brand. That might be the exterior sense of arrival, the lobby or the front desk. For owners of a new-build hotel, the design could be the selling point for why guests choose their property over another. For those wanting to do a conversion, an efficient design gives the property a fresh, new look.

Signature Inn

Two Sonesta brands—Sonesta ES Suites and Signature Inn—put design at the forefront, providing guests with a sense of place from the time they walk through the door until they head to their next destination.

The Sonesta ES Suites design is thoughtfully curated to elate guests by bridging the gap between work, home and play. Destination arrival doesn’t mean the fun ends; t’s where delightful surprises, activities and other offerings connect guests just a few steps away. Whether a short or extended-stay, guests can have it all—convenience to comforting flavors, fitness activities and a warm atmosphere. Sonesta ES Suites is sure to delight with all of the familiar amenities of home.

With the new design rolling out this summer, simplicity and warmth will greet guests upon entering their rooms with touches of Scandinavian wood tones, quirky artwork and minimalistic furniture. Comfortable seating and plentiful storage draw in a residential feeling, while still incorporating zones for both work and play.

Light, bright and airy, the new lobby brings in touches of home through use of texture, modern takes on traditional patterns and contemporary yet warm furniture with a casual vibe. Upon entering, guests will be greeted with whimsical and colorful touches including elements that unexpectedly hint at the brand’s bird logo. A game table front and center offers an opportunity to unwind while adjacent work-friendly areas give guests the space to stay productive and get together for informal meetings. Pet friendly elements at key locations reinforces that pets are always welcome at Sonesta ES Suites.

“We’ve worked diligently with Baskervill to create the next generation design of Sonesta ES Suites—and it really delivers on the fun, residential, lived-in vibe we were looking for,” said Brian Quinn, chief development officer, Sonesta. “The specs are scalable and embrace our diverse conversion portfolio. For instance, by offering a wide array of public space specifications—we provide design to match all functional layouts and needs. Adaptable to families, adventurers and remote workers looking for their new office away from home, we give owners options to provide a layout that works for them while still delivering our dynamite new aesthetic.”

Those guests who are captivated by times gone by will instantly take to Signature Inn. With dazzling design and mid-century modern motifs, the brand brings the luster and allure of the golden era of travel by car to life. Signature Inn is an affordable boutique hotel brand ideally suited for conversion in primary and secondary markets, competing with upper-economy brands in road trip destinations, coastal cities and towns and urban locations.

Several palettes are available depending on the locale. The “Vintage Chroma” paint scheme is reminiscent of typical mid-century modern motels. Sedate Gray is used as the base building color. Structural elements, such as columns, and prominent horizontal planes, such as floor slabs, soffits and roof fascias, are emphasized with Origami White. While the “Modern Lite’’ paint scheme is a bright and contemporary palette with light base colors and bold accents. Shell White is used as the base building color. Structural elements, such as columns, and prominent horizontal planes, such as floor slabs, soffits and roof fascia, are emphasized with Pewter Tankard. Signature Moment design elements help define brand recognition and reinforce consistency by using those bright iconic colors from the defined accents palette for each design.

Through high-impact and low-cost exterior updates, modernized guestroom furniture and amenities, renovated properties are positioned to gain pricing power, increase revenues and garner customer attention with playful guest experience. Owners are able to customize the property based on the iconic elements that can be embraced and provide that bit of kitsch—for example, antique “Hotel” signs with an arrow pointing to entrance, rooftop spaces that need to be activated, game rooms that could be revitalized—all help provide an authentic market driven experience. All properties do have required brand elements so that guests know what to expect of their experience, including a swimming pool lounge area and/or firepit for outside activation, communal table and console with record player, and the unexpected accent paint scheme throughout.

This is the brand that puts style back in road travel, truly “retro chic” in design—no upper economy brand is more of the moment. You’ll find Signature Inns in San Francisco, Eugene, Santa Clara, Temecula and Houston, and we anticipate a very robust pipeline for new locations in 2022.

“Signature Inn is really about being right where the customers are—the eye-catching design and palette and communal spaces really deliver the experience and iconic design guests are looking for, while the approach to revitalizing and refreshing with inexpensive brand elements helps to capture higher margins and flow through for owners,” commented Quinn.
