Meliá launches Stay Well by Delos suites at Orlando property

As guests continue to seek stays in line with health and wellness goals, hotels are taking note with offerings that not only honor these expectations but provide wellness experiences backed by science. Meliá Orlando Celebration is no exception, launching 10 Stay Well by Delos suites among the resort’s 289 rooms.

The suites offer products based on scientific research and technological advancements, all designed to improve air quality, sleep patterns, mindfulness and energy levels.

“Upon entering a Stay Well by Delos suite, guests are welcomed by a guided meditation from world-renowned wellness pioneer Dr. Deepak Chopra,” explained Antonio Baez, general manager, Meliá Orlando Celebration. “The Stay Well program for the suites includes mood-enhancing aromatherapy; dawn simulation to wake you gradually and gently; air purification that allows for crisper, cleaner air; subtle night lighting that offers illumination while minimizing sleep disruption; and a sound machine that has been found to have a restorative effect following stress and attention fatigue. Bathrooms in suites feature a shower infuser that reduces chlorine to leave hair and skin feeling softer and smoother.”

Aromatherapy, lighting and air purification are key to a healthy stay.

Clean air, particularly, is a critical component of comfort and well-being, especially in the age of COVID-19. The Stay Well by Delos suites provide guests with a specific Germ Defense Filter designed to target airborne bacteria, viruses and mold spores, Baez explained.

“Air filtration has been a priority in our fight against COVID-19 and other infections as we continue to maintain hygiene standards for our guests and employees,” Baez said.

Even prior to the pandemic, Delos has been focused on indoor air quality and filtration solutions as sources of health and wellness.

“Research suggests that the concentration of toxins, allergens and other pollutants can be up to five times higher indoors than it is outside,” said Peter Scialla, president/COO, Delos. “Air pollutants can contribute to a range of short-term symptoms such as eye, nose and throat irritation and headaches, as well as long-term adverse health outcomes such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, lung cancer and respiratory issues. All of these can significantly impact the experience of a hotel guest, along with the health and safety of the staff working in these spaces.”

According to Scialla, since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, indoor air filtration has become even more critical in reducing the spread of viral pathogens in indoor spaces such as hotel rooms.

This shower infuser reduces the chlorine in the water.

“We chose to partner with the Meliá organization because they are true thought leaders and advocates for their guests as it pertains to health and wellness,” Scialla said. “The Meliá Orlando Celebration property attracts many kinds of travelers from all over the world. By providing Stay Well by Delos suites, this enables guests to enjoy an optimal experience that nurtures their overall well-being while traveling.”

And, even after their hotel journey, guests staying in a Stay Well by Delos suite can access online programs that encourage health and well-being from the Cleveland Clinic.

“The Stay Well by Delos suites benefit our hotels by allowing guests additional experience-driven room options,” Baez said. “Those that have experienced a Stay Well by Delos suite often return to the property and rebook, and those guests looking to elevate their stay are welcome to give the suites a try. We have seen a great return on our investment with Delos.”

Baez said Meliá Punta Cana Beach Resort in the Dominican Republic had launched the suites in 2020 and, following its success, felt the Orlando market was an ideal destination to grow the partnership.

“There are so many fun activities that travelers can experience in Orlando,” Baez said. “With major theme parks, restaurants and shopping nearby, we wanted to provide our guests with a space where they could reset and rejuvenate after a long day of exploring. With all the bustle that is part of the Orlando experience, we found our guests like to return to a room designed in mind for relaxation.”

Meliá’s partnership with Delos is enabling the brand to expand a collective wellness experience through a pilot program in several European Meliá properties, Baez added.

“Delos is a trusted name in the wellness and health industry,” Baez said. “We felt their scientific research, innovative technology and human experience aligned with our high standards in hospitality, and with our ideology around internal balance. In addition to all the in-room amenities, Delos also provides our guests access to award-winning online programs that encourage health and well-being from the Cleveland Clinic, taking the in-room experience a step further. It has been a great relationship for our Punta Cana and Orlando properties.”
