Sustainable coffeemaker doesn’t sacrifice taste

Hotel coffee serves a very specific purpose: to provide guests with a popular amenity. But what if an in-room coffeemaker did more than just offer coffee? What if it provided a hygienic, sustainable and sleek way for guests to get their caffeine fix, all while offering great tasting beverages?

Led by experienced coffee experts, Bruvi is on a mission to do just that, founded and led by experienced, passionate coffee experts with a vision of reinventing single-serve coffee.

“While existing capsule-based systems offer single cup convenience, they also have traditionally compromised on taste and eco-friendliness,” said Bruvi founder Mel Elias. “Our product addresses those concerns and more with a single-serve system and patent-pending technology. Additionally, we engineered Bruvi to brew to the Gold Cup standard of the Specialty Coffee Association.”

Bruvi can brew up to seven different beverages including espresso, Americano, cold brew and tea.

“The combination of our advanced brewing technology with better coffee means a tastier cup for guests,” Elias said. “And unlike other pod coffeemakers, Bruvi brews directly in the pod. This makes it an ideal choice for hotels, as coffee machines are typically a common source of bacteria in hotel rooms.”

Bruvi’s B-Pods are packed with up to 40% more coffee than typical pods for fuller flavor and strength, Elias said.

“We use a double filter that allows micro grinds to pass through—another way we achieve the full-bodied flavor and mouthfeel you can’t get from other single-serve brewers,” said the Bruvi founder. “There are also 20 streams in the top cap to ensure even saturation of the coffee and better coffee extraction.”

Elias said that one of the most important aspects of B-Pods is the OID code embedded in each pod lid, which corresponds to a specific recipe for each coffee variety. A camera in the brewer scans the pod and then adjusts multiple brewing parameters to ensure that coffee’s optimal brew.

To use the coffeemaker, guests insert a B-Pod and enjoy one-touch brewing, or they can personalize their brew with options such as hotter, stronger, low acid, iced and cup size. Guests can also access a range of coffee beverage options simply by choosing either a coffee or espresso B-Pod.

Bruvi also prides itself on the brand’s attention on well-being and sustainability.

“We invested several years and a lot of resources to develop our proprietary Guilt-Free Toss B-Pods,” Elias said. “B-Pods are designed to be thrown in the trash after use. They are made with enzyme-infused plastic that degrades more rapidly in landfills without leaving microplastics behind.”

He added, “We only offer sustainably sourced, super-premium coffees. For our house brands, we purchase directly from coffee farms and producers who share our commitment to quality and sustainable practices. We also offer a growing range of coffees and espresso from similarly minded specialty coffee roasters. These are roasters who are making their coffee available for the first time in a capsule-based brewing system because they’ve seen that Bruvi brews to their exacting standards.”

Bruvi brewers also use a precision heating system that offers on-demand, energy-efficient heating and precision temperature control.

“Bruvi heats in less than five seconds and enables repeat brewing without waiting to reheat and also rapidly adjusts for cold brew,” the founder said. “It only heats the amount of water needed for the specific cup size being brewed and uses no energy to heat water while in standby mode. That means more energy efficiency for the hotel and greater convenience for guests.”

The company is just at the start of its hospitality journey, but its products can be found in several boutique hotels.

“We are finalizing programs with a resort property and in discussions with two hotel operators,” Elias said. “Even before we started to develop a hotel business, we were approached by small hotel operators looking for a more unique coffee solution for their guests.”
